Startland Education graduates our inaugural Young Womxn's Social Change Internship cohort!
This fall, we launched the sixth cohort of our Social Change Internship––an 8-week program that challenges students to inspire, encourage and create social change.
Our sixth cohort was open to women and gender non-conforming students only as we continue to push for a culture of equity and justice, and to offer the opportunity for a womxn’s lens to be added within our programming.
On Nov. 22nd, we graduated our cohort in the Historic Northeast in collaboration with Show Me KC Schools & Revolución Educativa. Check out what our teams were able to create through the experience below!
Final Pitches from our Sixth Cohort
“Young People of Color and the KCPD”
Interns: Nani, Jocelyn
Solution: Honing in on police brutality, this team suggests that an issue may be a lack of relationship between people of color and local departments. The interns pitched a 3-session experience for young people of color and KCPD to foster deep relationships.
“Comfort Packages”
Interns: Al, Guadalupe, Iman
Solution: Fighting the stigma of people’s menstrual cycles, this team created a discrete solution for students to grab-n-go in the classroom. Unveiling the prototype during our showcase, the package features heating pads, snacks and motivational stickers.

“I am so so so excited to let you know that Eye of An Immigrant has received the 501(c)(3) and we officially have a bank account open! Thank you so much for all you have done to help me. It wouldn't be possible without your mentorship.”
— Komal Kaur, Olathe East High School
“My experience in Startland has shaped the way I tackle problems. Whenever I have projects or assignments, I’ll think about Startland and how ‘to go fast, you must start slow.’”
— 12th Grader, Olathe East High School
“I've learned a lot about having empathy for others and their problems. Forming connections with the community is another thing that I have learned.”
