Startland Education and Kauffman Foundation introduce 2023 RWL Student Voice group
Startland Education is excited to partner with the Kauffman Foundation for our third-run of the RWL Student Voice Working Group.
Student Voice (SV) is an academic year-long program, grouping students and teachers together, to create solutions informed by real-world learning and human-centered design for their districts–––ultimately, highlighting the importance of student input at the administrative level.
Our 2023 Working Group is composed of 11 schools across 9 different school districts––totaling 50 program participants!
Student representatives from the group pitched the solutions they’ll be working on this Spring at the Manual Career and Technical Center. Check out a few of them below:
Final Projects
Lee’s Summit High School
Teachers: Jenna, Vickie
Students: Hannah, Maieva, Jacob, Mia
Honing in a lack of “belonging,” at their school, these students are looking to improve student-teacher relationships through a long-term approach, and are starting with a unity luncheon.
University Academy
Teachers: Adreani, Ruckman
Students: Me'Lani, Priscilla
Deducing from their empathy work that students are suffering from a toxic environment and, thus, feel afraid to voice their opinions, Me’Lani and Priscilla are creating a Student Advisory Board this Spring so that there’s a formal way for people to express qualms they have.
Raymore-Peculiar High School
Teachers: Renfrow, Russ
Students: Mackenzey, Ellie
Focusing on school infrastructure, these students are working on upgrading seating in the LEAD Center and various other places within their school to increase morale.
Blue Valley Academy
Teachers: Sayers, Brown
Students: Malik, Coriander
After their empathy work indicated that students had a mostly neutral outlook on their school, this team is working on “positive rebranding” for their institution by working with the communications department to create a promotional video.
