Fall City Wide MECA Methods a success!
Twice a year, Startland hosts a public workshop where we offer our Design Thinking training to educators and agencies from the region. During our recent fall City Wide, educators from Fort Osage Public Schools, The Academy for Integrated Arts, North Kansas City School District, Park Hill School District, Liberty Public Schools, and Guadalupe Centers joined Startland for our 3-day public workshop.
The goal of the fall City Wide was to create an environment for attendees to collaborate with other educators and agencies around the region while exploring design thinking strategies. Over the course of the workshop, attendees worked to solve a specific design challenge while identifying tactics for offering more meaningful and engaging learning experiences in their classrooms and institutions.
A special thank you goes to the UMKC Bloch School of Management, Multistudio, and DeBruce Foundation for acting as hosts during this workshop.
Key Takeaways
“This is my second time doing design thinking [workshop] with Startland. I struggle sometimes putting projects into my class, and the repetition for me is fantastic.” - Andrew Kreiling, North Kansas City High School
“This experience is going to allow me to change some of the projects in my classroom and how we think about them, and to actually expand how long they take in my classroom because of student engagement and the depth of the project” - Kacey Corwin, Winnetonka High School
“I am a first-year teacher, so it’s amazing to collaborate with people who have far more educational experience than I do, and to pick their brain and get ideas from them” -Eli Jost, Academy for Integrated Arts
